Carbon Footprints and Labels
At SATA Group–AEON, we closely monitor our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance as part of our CSR strategy.
Our goal is to measure our environmental, social, and governance impacts while continuously improving our sustainable practices. Carbon accounting, certifications, and audits are tools that help us track progress, ensure transparency, and structure our commitment to sustainable development.
We place great importance on the authenticity and traceability of our actions: every initiative is based on official references and recognised standards. This ensures the reliability of our commitments and the accuracy of the results we share openly.
facts & figures
Going Further for the Environment
- Alpe d’Huez: a carbon footprint assessment covering Scopes 1 and 2 (ADEME [French Agency for Ecological Transition] methodology) as well as Scope 3 was carried out for the 2021–2022 season.
- Les Deux Alpes: a carbon footprint assessment is currently in progress.
- Energy audits were conducted in 2024 on our sites in Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d’Huez.
- La Grave – La Meije: a decarbonisation study and an energy audit are planned for 2027.
From 2026 onwards, our carbon footprints (ADEME methodology – ) will be updated annually, going well beyond the current regulation, which requires updates only every four years.
These initiatives are integral to our overall commitment to the energy transition, reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, and managing our energy consumption
Understanding Scopes 1, 2 and 3 of the Carbon Footprint
- Scope 1 covers all direct greenhouse gas emissions produced by the company: heating in buildings, emissions from company-owned vehicles, HVO fuel used by grooming machines, etc.
- Scope 2 includes indirect, energy-related emissions generated during the production and use of energy. This includes emissions from the electricity purchased to run ski lifts, buildings and grooming equipment, even when the electricity is generated elsewhere.
- Scope 3 includes all other indirect emissions generated by the company. This scope generally represents the largest share of emissions, such as the purchase of goods and services, and travel by our visitors.
The Decarbonisation Accelerator programme, launched by Bpifrance in partnership with ADEME and Mines Paris, supports companies in developing an ambitious yet realistic decarbonisation strategy over a 24-month period.
As part of our CSR and climate strategy, SATA Group–AEON has chosen to join this programme in order to:
- Structure and plan our group-wide decarbonisation approach, while
embedding a long-term climate vision
- Include all our sites, whether or not they are already covered by a
carbon footprint assessment
- Actively contribute to the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with
the French National Low-Carbon Strategy
(Stratégie Nationale Bas Carbone)
Certifications and Environmental Management Systems
Our certifications guarantee the quality, safety, and performance of our operations:
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management (certified since 2001)
- ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management (certified since 2010)
- Safety Management System – a comprehensive framework integrating technical, organisational, and human factors to ensure effective risk control and the safety of installations.
To strengthen our social and environmental commitment, several labels and initiatives are currently under consideration:
- AFNOR ‘CSR Committed’ Label or ISO 26000 : strengthening our reputation, stakeholder trust, risk management, operational efficiency, and employee engagement.
- ISO 50001 – Energy Management System (EMS) for improved energy efficiency.
- RFAR – Supplier Relations and Responsible Purchasing, for more sustainable and ethical procurement.
- VSME – VVoluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for Non-Listed SMEs: the new European ESG reporting framework.
- Flocon Vert – Participation in the Steering Committee of the Huez and Les Deux Alpes municipalities, aimed at gaining recognition as sustainable mountain destinations.
Through the implementation of regular carbon footprint assessments, participation in decarbonisation programmes, and the attainment of recognised CSR labels, SATA Group–AEON demonstrates its ambition to permanently reduce CO₂ emissions and actively contribute to carbon neutrality by 2050.
These initiatives reflect our commitment to combining operational performance with social and environmental responsibility, while fostering sustainable engagement with our employees, visitors, partners, and the local community.
