our story

Established in the heart of the Oisans region in 1959, SATA Group has always been driven by a single ambition: to imagine, shape and continually reinvent the mountain experience. As a pioneer in lift systems, we keep pushing the boundaries of innovation to ensure seamless, safe access to the summits.

AEON, SATA Group’s signature label, reflects a shared vision, a common thread and a mark of excellence found in every experience across the destinations we operate: Alpe d’Huez, Les 2 Alpes and La Grave.

SATA Group is a semi-public company (SEM), with the majority of its capital held by local partners and communities. Every euro earned is reinvested in the territory. With 1,100 employees and a turnover of €128 million in 2023, SATA Group – AEON has become the leading economic player in the Oisans Valley.

SATA Group’s main activity revolves around the development of mountain destinations, including ski areas, lift systems, snowmaking networks, water infrastructure, hiking and mountain bike trails, and more.

Its second area of focus is mountain dining: SATA Group operates three high-altitude restaurants, complementing the region’s existing alpine dining facilities.

The third activity is real estate for its employees: SATA Group owns 150 accommodations in Alpe d’Huez and around fifty in Les 2 Alpes, providing housing for both permanent and seasonal employees.

The fourth activity is events: SATA Group coordinates and participates in mountain-focused events such as the Megavalanche and Mountain of Hell, as well as supporting major gatherings like the Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival and Tomorrowland Winter. The company also provides coordination and support for teams at top international sporting events, including the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup in Alpe d’Huez.
